Day 1 Hanoi Arrival

Welcome to Hanoi: Vietnam’s bustling colonial capital. Our private driver and tour guide will meet you outside the baggage claim of Noi Bai Airport and take you to your hotel in the city center.

In the afternoon enjoy a cyclo tour through the Old Quarter’s narrow streets lined with French colonial buildings – followed by a gourmet dinner at one of Hanoi’s finest restaurants.

Day 2 Hanoi city tour

Today you will have a full day to explore Vietnam’s charming capital. With its wide tree-lined boulevards, French colonial architecture, peaceful lakes and ancient oriental pagodas, Hanoi is an eclectic mix that offers something for everyone. Your city tour (flexible and could be amended to your own interests) will take you to Hanoi’s key sites: the Ho Chi Minh Complex (Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and stilt house), the Presidential Palace, the nearby One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, West Lake including the sedate Tran Quoc Pagoda & Quan Thanh Temple, and one of the city's museums (a choice between the History Museum and the Ethnology Museum). Later in the afternoon, enjoy a traditional Water Puppet Performance – a unique Vietnamese art form hailing from Southeast Asia’s wet-rice culture. Overnight in Hanoi

Day 3 Hoa Lu - Tam Coc day tour - drive to Mai Chau valley

Pick up time at your hotel will be at 07:30 AM. The pleasant drive to Tam Coc takes two and a half hours.
Along the way, stop where you wish to take photographs of local villages and the surrounding landscape.
On arrival in Tam Coc Town, board your private sampan boat. For ninety minutes your private oarswoman / man will take you down the Ngo Dong River. Pass through the three caves that made Vietnam famous in the French film 'Indochine', Hang Ca, Hang Giua and Hang Cuoi.
On the way visit Bich Dong Pagoda, set among pink lotuses, the temple offers spectacular views of the surrounding area.
Back to Tam Coc Town to enjoy a delicious Vietnamese lunch.
Following lunch drive to Hoa Lu to visit the temples dedicated to Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang of the Dinh Dynasty (968-80), and Emperor Le Dai Hanh of the Le Dynasty (980-1009). The ancient Hoa Lu Citadel (most of which has since been ruined) once covered an area of three square kilometres.

Drive to Mai Chau valley in the afternoon. Overnight in Mai Chau homestay or resort.

Day 4 Mai Chau exploring

 Mai Chau: a small town nestled in the midst of a lush valley and surrounded by emerald-green rice fields. Enjoy picturesque views of the scenic landscape, sown with pagodas and rural villages. Stop along the way to visit the Muong tribe and then at Thung Khe Pass for a spectacular view of Mai Chau Valley. Have lunch in Mai Chau then spend the afternoon trekking off the typical tourist track, along the Song Ma River. Trek through terraced rice paddies and small villages, discovering the natural beauty of the valley and encountering the culture of the White Thai people, living in the region. Overnight in Mai Chau

Day 5  Mai Chau – Hanoi

Start the day with a simple breakfast with your host family then take a short drive through the surrounding countryside, before setting off on a trek through rice paddies and down winding lanes to visit the “Cum” and “Xam Khoe” villages. Immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture and enjoy an authentic lunch at one of the villages. In the afternoon, drive back to the urban bustle, arriving at your hotel in Hanoi in the late afternoon. Overnight in Hanoi

Day 6  Hanoi to Ba Be lake  

Today, our trip should depart Hanoi at 7.30 AM, heading straight to center North of Vietnam. After about 2 hour drive, we will have coffee-break at Cho Lu (Lu Market), then start to enter the mountainous region where beautiful dramatic natural landscape alternates with ethnic villages located at the foot of the mountains. The drive will be slow-paced and peaceful, we will have a chance to stop to take photos, enjoy the views…

Upon arrival, we enjoy the well-established home-stay in Pac Ngoi, with the Tay people. Around 1 PM, we will spend a couple of hours to enjoy slow biking along village lanes to explore neighborhoods. Overnight in Ba Be

Day 7  Ba Be lake discovery

After breakfast, take a 4 hour boat trip with spectacular view of Ba Be lake and surrounding mountains and. Take a short trek to the Dau Dang Waterfall before visiting some villages of the Tay and Dzao minority people, enjoying a picnic lunch along the way.
Have dinner and stay overnight in the village of Tay tribe. Overnight in Ba Be

Day 8  Ba Be lake - Pac Bo Cave - Cao Bang

Early this morning depart for a drive north east toward Cao Bang. Take a short stroll to see the colorful mountain tribes living in this area.  After lunch we’ll head towards the Chinese border to see the historical site of the cave where President Ho Chi Minh live and work when he returned to Vietnam in early of 1940s. Along the way we stop and visit the exotic local markets to mingle with the hill tribes as they barter their wares. Overnight in Cao Bang

Day 9  Cao Bang - Discover Ban Gioc waterfall

Spend today exploring the unspoiled nature that surrounds Cao Bang as you drive along the Chinese border to Ban Gioc Waterfall. Set amid stunning scenery, overlooking the border, Ban Gioc is one of the country's largest waterfalls and you'll have time to relax or take a swim in its emerald waters. Return to Cao Bang late afternoon for a chance to explore more of this quaint town. Overnight in Cao Bang

Day 10 Cao Bang - Drive to Lang Son

Cao Bang to Lang Son is a drive filled with spectacular views of lush valleys, village hamlets and distant mountains. On arrival to this border city you will visit the local market. Day 11 Lang Son – Halong Bay

Today, we take a 4,5 hours drive from Lang Son to Halong Bay. Welcome drink o­n arrival at pier in Halong City, following, board Halong cruise.

At 12.00 start to cruise into Halong Bay. Journey past amazing rock formations which envision many different animals and objects. Overnight on cruise

Day 12 Halong Bay discovery

Day 13 Halong Bay – Hanoi

Awake early and participate in Tai Chi on the top deck or simply relax and enjoy the sunrise over the bay’s towering islands. Enjoy a morning cup of coffee or tea, before setting out to explore the nearby islands by rowboat. Return to the junk for brunch then take advantage of the sundeck and admire the amazing rock formations of Bai Tu Long Bay as you navigate back to Halong City, where your driver will meet you at the dock and take you back to your hotel in Hanoi.
