You will learn all about the history of the village, the use of medicinal plants, and participate in gardening activities.  We will continue through the paddy fields to the local market of Ba Le, the fishing village of Van Lang and the Bay Mau (water coconut forest).  Along the way you can try a water buffalo ride (or not), in the middle of the rice paddy, which will make for a very different photo opportunity!

Upon arrival at the village, we will be warmly welcomed by a local family. The fishermen will take you fishing, teaching you their traditional techniques as well as a “Basket Boat” ride to the forest of coconut palms.  This forest is fascinating as it was used by soldiers fighting in the war.  The mind boggles how anyone could actually find each other!

Welcome to Hue, the old imperial capital of Vietnam and the center of governance of the last dynasty, the Nguyen Dynasty.

We will start our tour with a visit to the UNESCO listed Imperial Citadel.  Reigning with the consent of the French, the Nguyens ruled as figurehead monarchs at the Hue Citadel until 1945, when Bao Dai turned over the reins of government to Ho Chi Minh. The Citadel covers a vast area with many interesting buildings. Surrounded by a moat and thick stone walls, it encompasses the Imperial City, with palaces and shrines; the Forbidden Purple City (Tử cấm thành), once the emperor’s home; and a replica of the Royal Theatre. Although it received damage during the Vietnam War it is still an amazing site.

We will continue on to visit two very different tombs of the emperors.  Emperor Khai Dinh’s tomb is fascinating in that it reflects the flamboyance of this emperor.  It took the longest to build and is the most expensive being heavily influenced by French Architecture and decor.  However no other Royal Tomb in Hue can compare to Tu Duc’s in the department of size and luxuriousness. The tomb’s architecture was designed to work in harmony with the carefully-manicured landscape.

The afternoon is at your leisure.

Hue has many cool café, pubs and eateries for you to discover.  Stroll along the streets and you will find something to please the eye and the tastebuds.  It is also a great place to pick up some nice tailored clothing at very reasonable prices.

The Old Quarter in Hanoi is an intriguing neighborhood, home to a mix of Vietnamese architecture, green spaces, ancient shops and fresh-as-it-gets street food. The 36 guild streets of the Old Quarter were named for 36 trades or craft that set up in this area, and created high-quality goods to supply the royals in the Thang Long Citadel, just steps away. Today only a few streets sell the same products they once did. Some streets, however, have kept the traditions of the past; and these can be great fun to explore on foot or on a cyclo, and with your camera in hand.

Our tour guide will guide us around the Old Quarter for street food tasting as a unique alternative option for our dinner. On a 3-hour walking tour we’ll explore the culture, history of Hanoi, step into a world full of street food vendors. Unlike big cities all around the world, street food in Hanoi is not just hot dog carts and pretzel stands, we offer an opportunity to try out many different dishes at the local food stands, and family restaurants…

A rotating menu from day to day to represent the variety of delicious options, but tastings might include – but are subject to change: rice noodle soup with beef (phở bò), rice noodle soup with chicken (phở gà), rice noodle with grilled pork (bún chả), egg coffee, along with various kinds of donut, steamed pancake or Vietnamese sandwiches (bánh mỳ),...
