Day 2 Hanoi city tour one day

Today you have a full day to explore Vietnam’s charming capital. With its wide tree-lined boulevards, French colonial architecture, peaceful lakes and ancient oriental pagodas; Hanoi is an eclectic mix that offers something for everyone. Your city tour will take you to Hanoi’s key sites: the Ho Chi Minh Complex (Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and stilt house), the Presidential Palace, the nearby One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, West Lake including the sedate Tran Quoc Pagoda & Quan Thanh Temple, and one of the city's museums (a choice between the History Museum and the Ethnology Museum). Later in the afternoon, experience an hour cyclo ride through old quarter and enjoy a traditional Water Puppet Performance – a unique Vietnamese art form hailing from Southeast Asia’s wet-rice culture. Day 3 Duong Lam Ancient village - Tay Phuong pagoda one day tour

Depart at your hotel in Hanoi at 8:30 AM and travel west of Hanoi to Duong Lam village, a purely agricultural village of the Northern Red River delta where still preserve many hundred-year-old houses. On the way, you will stop to visit one of the oldest pagodas in North Vietnam - Tay Phuong pagoda.

Upon arrival, cycling along tiny ancient alleys to visit Mong Phu temple in Mong Phu hamlet - the only hamlet whose original village entrance gate remains intact, dedicated to national heroes. Continue riding around the village to discover the daily life and farming working of Vietnamese peasants along the terrace with a stop in two ancient houses: the biggest ancient house was build 200 years ago and the most ancient house back to 400 years ago.

After lunch and resting, visit Ngo Quyen temple and Phung Hung temple, places dedicated to two national heroes Ngo Quyen and Phung Hung. Again biking to visit Mia Pagoda (other hamlet in Duong Lam village), is built in 15th century and admire 287 statues of all sizes, among with are famous sculpture such as the statue of Buddha in the Himalayas and the statues of the Eight Vajra Deities. Drive back to Hanoi. Tour finishes around 5:00 PM. Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 4 Hanoi - Pu Luong Nature Reserve

Pu Luong Nature Reserve is located roughly 180 South West of Hanoi. The reserve has a total area of 17,662 ha and ¾ of the nature reserve is primary tropical forest. At the same time this is the living place of ethnic Muong and Thai people. In Thai language Pu Luong means: the highest peak of the village.

Pu Luong offers many opportunities for tourists, such as trekking in the forest and along the rice terrace fields, cycling through the reserve and visiting many authentic small villages. It is a real “off the beaten track” destination.

Today, you check out the hotel and leave Hanoi for Pu Luong at 8:00 AM. It takes about 4,5 hours drive from Hanoi to Pu Luong. On the way you will stop to take beautiful landscape pictures.

You arrive at your accommodation in time for a delicious lunch, followed by free time to explore the beautiful retreat, with its captivating panoramic views and tranquil setting. Overnight in Pu Luong

Day 5 Pu Luong Trekking

Today, you will be transferred to a suspension bridge over the Cham River, where you begin your walk in search of stunning water wheels. Get up close to each wheel and discover how water is moved from river to handmade bamboo aqueducts via simple constructions of all sizes. You continue trekking through beautiful rice fields in harvesting season.

Arriving at a local fisherman’s house, you have a short rest to gear up for the rafting adventure. Float along the calm river and enjoy the views, in between learning how to paddle and steer your handcrafted rafts.

Arriving at scenic Tan Lap bridge, you disembark to be transferred back to Pu Luong Retreat for dinner. Overnight in Pu Luong

Day 6 Trekking to Kho Muong village

Today, after breakfast, you will take a short ride from the retreat to Bang village, going down into the beautiful valley leading to Kho Muong. Along the way you will have a chance to enjoy beautiful terrace rice fields. After enjoying the view from above we will visit the isolated village is surrounded by a huge mountain range, you can come to visit a local family, this is a great chance to learn more about lifestyle and culture of the local.

Have picnic lunch. After lunch, you will walk around the village and go to visit a big cave (Bat cave) short hike to the cave close to the village. For those want deeper look. We can go deeper inside the cave (proper shoes and torch are required). Heading to Dong Dieng village, you will go thru natural reserve zone. Car and driver will pick you up and transfer back to Pu Luong retreat for dinner. Overnight in Pu Luong

Day 7 Trekking to Uoi - Lan - Hieu villages

Start early to descend into the beautiful valley facing the Retreat where you walk around tumbling rice terraces. Trek through small paths shrouded in vegetation to slowly reveal a picturesque village sitting at the base of a towering mountain.Your camera will not be able to sit still ! Continuing to the base of the valley, you weave between roads and farmland, villages and wild fields, ponds and rivers, mountains and open land. Savour the ever-changing scenery as you trek to a beautiful spot to enjoy a simple picnic lunch.

After enjoying delicious food, you have free time to explore the refreshing water to the nearby river, before moving to our pick up point to be transferred back to the Retreat. Overnight in Pu Luong

Day 8 Pu Luong - Ninh Binh

Today, after breakfast and check out the hotel, free and easy till your guide and driver transfer you to Ninh Binh. It takes about 3,5 hours drive to Ninh Binh. On the way you will stop for lunch. Check-in your homestay in Ninh Binh. The rest of the day is free at your leisure. Overnight in Ninh Binh

Day 9 Tam Coc boat trip - cycling tour in Tam Coc

Today, after breakfast at the homestay. You will start the cycling tour around the countryside, passing through local villages, visiting King Dinh - King Le temples and Bich Dong pagoda. After local lunch, taking a boat trip (sampan) along Ngo Dong river, through narrow limestone caves (Tam Coc means three caves) to enjoy the amazing limestone mountains scenery. Day 10 Ninh Binh - Halong Bay, overnight on cruise

Day 11 Halong Bay - transfer to Cat Ba island

Wake up in the early morning for Tai Chi, then having breakfast and check out your cabin before transferring to Cat Ba island by small boat. Arrive Cat Ba island, your guide will take you to trek in Cat Ba National Park. Then go to Cat Ba town for lunch before transferring to Manh Nu floating homestay. Dinner at homestay. Day 12 Kayaking & cycling tour around islands
